Thank you so much for supporting Safer Cycling for Sydney Road. Our petition was tabled at the 8 April 2015 Council meeting.
The response from the council is as follows:
“Moreland Council does not consider that banning parking along the 150 metre section of Sydney Road (Weston Street to Barkly Street) would not be an effective measure, in itself, to provide an appreciable improvement in cycling safety on Sydney Road.”
What we think about the response
We agree with the council on this as we would like to see a separated cycle lane installed on the length of Sydney Road Brunswick. We have consulted other community groups such as Cycle Local Shop Local and Sydney Road Separated Cycleway to come up with the best possible outcome for all road users.
Come to the council meeting
We are going to present our ideas to the Moreland council this Saturday (May 23). Moreland Council is the responsible council for Brunswick.
We need you to come along tomorrow and show your support for improving the safety on Sydney Road.
Details of the meeting
Time: 10 AM to 2 PM
Date: This Saturday 23rd May 2015
Venue: Brunswick Town Hall
Format: Moreland Council intends to conduct a public forum that enables all sectors of the community to provide input to a safer Sydney Road for all users. Community involvement is invaluable in shaping designs that cater for all road users in an inclusive and shared manner.
Public presentations will be made at 10AM and 12PM.
Be part of it
You do not need to stay for the whole meeting but it would be really great if you could come along and tell the council that we need a separated cycleway on Sydney Road and to achieve this they will need to move some parking off street.
